We continue to work with the monolithic architecture as a base: a single company application that contains all our business (known as the Backend). As everything is under the same support, any correction, change, and new functionality will affect all levels and will force you to install all the content again.

It’s a problem when code breaks in various ways, causing tedious maintenance and preventing some ideas from reaching deployment.

As we discussed in Study the performance of your apps with Azure App Insights, it’s important to maintain control over your apps, and helping to reduce workloads is a great way to do that.

Use microservices to divide app workloads: a modern architecture separating functionality into independent spaces, avoiding reliance on a single code.


In this architecture, your app consists of connected, self-contained services dedicated to specific business capacities, promoting modular and independent functionality.

Separate code enhances SOLID principles and reduces “dirty code” by improving readability and reducing line count, simplifying maintenance. In addition, the changes we make will be installed only where we need them. This speeds up the installation and update process.

The challenge is that each project may need multiple microservices, and installing them as separate webs consumes significant resources. That’s what Kubernetes is for: a technology that allows microservices to be installed efficiently, with each container containing the strictly necessary resources. The key is to optimize the process and use the minimum possible resources.

How does Kubernetes work? How do I start working with it?


At the highest level, Kubernetes is a cluster of local or virtual machines. Each machine (or node according to Kubernetes) share processing resources, network connection, and storage. A “master” node connects to those machines, which will run workloads in groups separated by containers, with the central node serving as an administrator.

Our staff controls everything from the main node through a command interface in your OS. From there, after passing through the API server and the control manager, the changes or orders are issued to the worker nodes.


Once we have everything configured, we can start to deploy the applications and their respective workloads. Kubernetes has all the tools to do this, as well as visualization capabilities to see the status of each machine and manage resources automatically, without taking up your time.

The last step is to organize the management and permissions/access to our managers. To do this, a namespace (bundling method in Kubernetes) must be created, with which you can start granting such permissions.


What do I get, then, from using microservices?

The new microservice architecture optimizes resources, using just what is necessary. It will also help us have clean and easy-to-read code, making it easy to add new features efficiently. But above all, it will keep our operations running as long as possible and at peak performance.
