The HARTMANN GROUP is one of the leading European providers of professional medical and care products and associated services. Every day, healthcare professionals and patients rely on HARTMANN brands in the segments of Incontinence Management (e.g. MoliCare®), Wound Care (e.g. Zetuvit®, Cosmopor®) and Infection Management (e.g. Sterillium®). This is expressed in our brand promise of “Helps. Cares. Protects.” Founded in 1818, the Company sells its products and solutions in 130 countries around the world.

HES-building-2017

HARTMANN’s Infection Management Segment has developed a hygiene platform that has transformed hygiene management in hospitals, with 285 institutions worldwide currently using the solution. This platform supports hospital staff in following hygiene protocols and aims to contribute to infection prevention efforts — helping create conditions for a safer and healthier hospital environment.

Hygiene Platform is a versatile solution for healthcare institutions such as hospitals or nursing homes. It allows the definition, management, and observation of relevant SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for hygiene, with a series of predefined SOPs and a convenient editor to adapt them to the institution’s standards. The platform facilitates step-by-step observation of SOPs, with integrated comment functions and result charts for a comprehensive compliance evaluation.

01. The Challenge

Hartmann aimed to modernize its hospital hygiene platform to further ensure reliable, uninterrupted operation critical for daily hygiene management.

The user interface was redesigned to be fresh, intuitive, and tailored to users aged 50–60. The platform also needed to be flexible, scalable, and multilingual to meet country-specific regulations—now live in 11 countries and 10 languages.

A key focus was enabling accurate real-time hygiene audits to ensure compliance at critical moments.

Itequia delivered a robust, custom solution built for high performance and data security, using an iterative, user-centered design approach to align new features closely with user needs.

02. The Solution

Thanks to the collaboration with Itequia, HARTMANN successfully modernized its hygiene and maintenance platform, meeting essential goals for speed, security, scalability, and functionality. The project followed a full-cycle approach—from design to implementation.

A thorough code and infrastructure audit helped identify areas to be improved and guide a targeted modernization strategy. The platform was enhanced with optimized performance and a complete front-end redesign for a modern, user-friendly experience.

Rigorous testing using Cypress, NUnit, and Jasmine ensured reliability across all components. Longrequested features were added, including:

    • Evaluation Section: Ability to add up to 6 filters to compare information.
    • Improved Translation System: Optimization of the translation system to facilitate the management of changes in literals, translation, and publication of new content.
    • Offline Optimization: The application allows operation in both online and offline modes, automatically synchronizing when there is a connection without user intervention.
    • Real-Time Data Exploitation: Ability to exploit data in real-time for better decision-making.

Ongoing support ensures the platform stays up-to-date, secure, and compliant. Three main products were upgraded and fully integrated:

    • Observe: Enables real-time tracking of hand hygiene compliance across hospital areas.
    • SOP Assistant: A visual guide to hygiene procedures, improving clarity and training.
    • Hygiene Check: A powerful audit tool with questionnaires, photo uploads, and visual annotations.

For the Hygiene Check, Itequia created a fully clickable prototype in Figma to support an iterative, user-centered design process. Weekly sessions with HARTMANN’s project lead and a key user enabled rich, ongoing feedback. This approach ensured that user needs were addressed early, allowing for fast, cost-effective adjustments and minimizing rework during development—resulting in a smoother and more efficient implementation.
