TRAM: Innovation and Efficiency with Real-Time Occupancy Data
For an organization as significant as TRAM, a key operator in Barcelona’s public transport, ensuring the quality and efficiency of its services is essential. For this reason, TRAM needed an innovative solution to monitor and visualize the occupancy of its vehicles in real-time, accessible both from the web and mobile applications. This project has significantly improved the user experience.

01. The Challenge
TRAM faced the challenge of providing its users with accurate and real-time information about vehicle occupancy. The need was clear: a solution that would allow users to plan their trips more efficiently, reducing waiting times and improving overall satisfaction.
For Itequia, the challenge was no less significant. Developing a solution that integrated multiple technologies and platforms, ensuring the accuracy and security of real-time data, posed a significant technical challenge. Additionally, designing an intuitive and accessible interface for both web and mobile applications required an innovative and user-centered approach.
02. The Solution
To address the challenge of providing accurate and real-time information about vehicle occupancy, we developed a comprehensive solution that encompasses both web and mobile platforms. This project focused on several key components to ensure successful implementation and an optimized user experience.
Design and Prototyping
The first step was designing and prototyping four intuitive and functional screens: two for the web and two for mobile applications. These screens were designed with a focus on usability and accessibility, allowing users to clearly and easily visualize vehicle occupancy. The design aimed to offer a seamless user experience, with a clean and easy-to-navigate interface.
Integration with Open Data
To provide real-time information, an endpoint was created on the OpenData portal, TRAM’s service that makes all operational data available to third parties. This endpoint allows registered users to access updated data on vehicle occupancy. The integration with Open Data was carried out using advanced technologies, ensuring that the available information is always accurate and relevant. This system allows data queries through API calls, supporting JSON, and using the HTTPS protocol to ensure communication security. The implementation of secure protocols like HTTPS and OAuth 2.0 not only protects data integrity but also reinforces user trust in the system, a crucial aspect for any organization handling sensitive information.

The documentation was designed to be accessible and understandable, ensuring that all aspects of the system are easily comprehensible to users.
